Interpretations

The Thing Itself began as two photographs and is implicitly connected to the process of photographic looking.  It is an artwork that explicitly denies a definitive reading and invites each viewer to experience it themselves, making their own choices and explorations.  Here, Claire Reddleman returns to The Thing Itself as a viewer and photographer and makes her own reading of the work, thereby re-constructing the images, for herself, that she has so painstakingly deconstructed in engaging with this work.  While the slideshow is an illustrative survey of the scope of the work, these photographs represent just one encounter with it.  To make your own reading, you are invited to contact Claire Reddleman to explore exhibiting it.
